Just thought I would start a new thread to separate out one of Colleen's questions from another posting thread...

Why do new immigrants who have various degrees and MBA's in their forign country have such a difficult time finding a high paying job in Canada?

As far as the interviewing process and dealing with a language barrier which is the most common impediment for newcomers to Canada in obtaining employment, this site is quite good: http://www.upwardlyglobal.org/interviewing/.

Another piece to it is that some professional bodies set the standards on what credentials are acceptable in their area. Physicians are a good example of this. Although they may agree that getting newcomers into the labour force is necessary, there is still a great deal of fear and uncertainty regarding the impact acceptance will have on their profession's credibility as well as on their careers personally. Although it is likely unfounded, the perception is still lying underneath.

Loaded Question

The response to your question is a multi-faceted one.
The answer depends on many things. For example, if the individual is from a country that primarily uses a language that is not english, they might have trouble communicating at the levels that are expected of MBA graduate at MBA type of positions.

There is also the question of foreign credentials. That are thousands of Universities around the world, and it is quite likely that the person doing the hiring has not heard of all the educational institutions that offer MBA's. Is it comparable to Canadian MBA graduates? Due to their lack of knowledge they would probably opt for the safer choice and go for someone local.
