Recently, Joe Minaudo, Social Community Manager of the upcoming Recruitment Innovation Summit interviewed Kendra Reddy as part of a dynamic line of presenters that will lead sessions on October 26 and 27th 2011 in Toronto. Kendra will be moderating a session called “Social Networking Strategies.”
JM: Why do you believe "Social Networking Strategies" is the session to attend at this year’s Recruitment Innovation Summit?
KR: Because any time someone (company or individual) is even remotely interested in knowing more about you (company or individual), they are going to Google you and what they find (or don't find), is going to influence how they feel about you. People make decisions in life based firstly on how they feel about you.
JM: I find that the panelists within this session represent a nice blend of global, national and dynamic, up-and-coming companies. Some real, value-added insight should come through for the audience…
KR: …everything from what’s the latest in social media recruiting, to where to start, how to gain buy in, to who to involve. These panelists have first-hand experience in creating and implementing social media talent solutions and will share what they’ve seen work and where they’ve stubbed their toes.
JM: With the evolution of Social Media and the availability of free information, individuals are certainly not at a loss in gaining access to resources on how to Network. Do you find that people are still missing some fundamental and important factors when it comes to Networking?
KR: Yes. Mostly, I think that people lose sight of the fundamental fact that anytime anyone needs anything in life, they are going to look for a trusted and familiar face first. It doesn’t matter if it’s online or in person. A lot of individuals get so wrapped up in the technical aspects of social media platforms, that they forget their manners and basic social etiquette. Yes it’s important to understand the lingo and functionality of the tool, but at the end of the day- it’s just a tool. It can help facilitate a conversation, but it can’t create human connection for you.
JM: Leadership Coaching is one of the areas you specialize in as part of your consultancy, Blueprint Strategies. Do you have any thoughts on whether the executive/leadership level in general has reached a point of acceptance as it pertains to the value of Social Media?
KR: Sadly, no. I think there are still senior people out there who are burying their head in the sand. Best summed up in this CNN business article I was featured in. You can’t control who is going to search for you, but you can control what information they will find when they do. When it comes to managing your brand and networking online, every action, reaction, or inaction counts!
JM: Thank you time Kendra. We look forward to your presentation on “Social Networking Strategies" at the Summit.
