Mentorship

Hello all,

We are in the process of trying to implement a formal mentorship program at our company, in part as a knowledge management initiative. We are looking for some sort of training in and around the Edmonton area that would illustrate what it is to be a good mentor, what the benefits of mentorship are (to all people, the mentor, the mentee and the company)ect. Does anyone know of a program like this?

Any and all help is appreciated!

Mentorship On Line

There are a lot of resources online, one good site is:

I did help design a mentorship program at a previous employer, and as well have attended a course and participated in a professional mentorship program for 10 years. The above link will help get you started and I suggest you read it before hiring an external consultant to provide training so that you can effectively evaluate any proposals by consultants. When we implemented the program at my previous employer I took the consultants proposal which involved 2 full days of mentors time and 1 full day of mentees time for training and reduced it to 2.5 hours for mentors and 1.5 hours for mentees. If the trainer is efficient and really know what they are talking about they can provide effective training in this time frame. You can also put together a very good 'does and don'ts' article (using the online resources) to provide to program participants that they can use as guidelines throughout their participation.
Approaching your program set up in this way will not only save money, it will give you the opportunity to customize the program to your organizational needs.
